SSA Wetland Report Submitted

SPRINGFIELD — Susan Shea, Ph.D., director of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Division of Aeronautics announced today the Wetland Delineation Report for the South Suburban Airport (SSA), has been submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for review. The Wetland Delineation Report provides a comprehensive inventory of the aquatic plant communities within the inaugural SSA footprint. This information will be used to design future airport facilities that first and foremost avoid, minimize and/or mitigate impacts to wetlands. This report is an FAA-required component of the SSA Master Plan, and it will be used by the FAA during its Tier 2 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

“I am excited the report has been submitted to the FAA for review and future coordination with other federal and state resource agencies. This is another important step in the Airport Master Planning process, leading to the construction of the South Suburban Airport,” says Shea.
