SSA Wetland Report Submitted To U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

SPRINGFIELD — Susan Shea, Ph.D., director of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Division of Aeronautics, announced today that the draft of the Wetland Delineation Report for the South Suburban Airport (SSA) has been submitted to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) for their review. The draft Wetland Delineation Report provides a comprehensive inventory of the aquatic plant communities within the inaugural SSA footprint. This information will be used to design future airport facilities that first and foremost avoid, minimize and/or mitigate impacts to wetlands. The FAA has examined the draft document and concurred in submitting the report to the USACE for their review. The final Wetland Delineation Report will be used by the FAA in preparing the Tier 2 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

“This is another step forward in the SSA Master Plan. I am excited the report – more than 1,000 pages long – has been submitted to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for their review,” says Shea.
