SSA issues RFI for Commercial Air Passenger and Air Cargo Service Advisors

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has posted a Request for Information (RFI) in connection with the South Suburban Airport (SSA).

The purpose of this RFI is to obtain specific ideas and goals that will help generate a comprehensive and effective strategy to market commercial air passenger and air cargo activity at SSA.

“The South Suburban Airport is one of our top priorities and the faster we can get it built, the faster the people of Will County will reap the many benefits this economic engine will generate,” said Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann L. Schneider.  “This project, along with the proposed Illiana project, will create thousands of good-paying jobs and provide a major boost to the local economy.”

Illinois is the nation’s largest ‘inland port’ and is one of the largest transportation hubs in the world, moving billions of tons of freight, and millions of passengers annually to and through the state. IDOT’s Long-Range Transportation Plan, Transforming Transportation for Tomorrow, takes a multi-modal approach to transportation planning and focuses on providing inclusive and comprehensive transportation solutions that will meet the travelling public’s needs well into 21st century.

To remain a global transportation leader, IDOT’s plan addresses the efficient movement of goods and people from all modes, and aviation is an essential component of the Illinois transportation system. Investing in Illinois airports has been, and will remain, one of IDOT’s top priorities.

IDOT is committed to the continued growth and success of transportation in Will County. The Department firmly believes SSA is needed and will benefit the citizens of Illinois. SSA will provide the region with needed infrastructure, jobs, and economic growth opportunities.
