PEOTONE — The Illinois Department of Transportation - Division of Aeronautics has hired a Project Coordinator for the South Suburban Airport.

Mr. William M. Viste was selected as the top candidate for the SSA Project Coordinator position after an extensive application and interview process that included over 80 applicants. Mr. Viste holds a degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Illinois and is an FAA certificated Private Pilot.

Viste is well versed in the details of the South Suburban Airport project, having previously worked for the Division of Aeronautics as an Airport Planning Engineer and Environmental Specialist. He brings with him over 8 years of experience providing technical oversight of airport planning and environmental efforts at over 80 airports across the State of Illinois.

As Project Coordinator, he will ensure the technical accuracy of the project’s reports and submittals, provide status oversight for the various facets of this complex project, and respond to technical questions and comments from Federal, State, and local agencies, communities, landowners, and other stakeholders.

“I’m extremely excited about the addition of this dedicated technical position for the South Suburban Airport,” said Director Shea. “ Bill has been working for the Division of Aeronautics for quite some time and I can personally attest to his dedication, familiarity with SSA, and technical knowledge. He’s extremely capable and will definitely be an asset to this very important endeavor.”

The South Suburban Airport will be a new supplemental air carrier airport in Will County aimed at serving Will County and Chicago’s south suburbs. SSA will serve a vital role in the region by providing a convenient and accessible venue for commercial passenger service, cargo operations, as well as corporate and general aviation activities. The Airport Master Plan and the FAA’s Tier 2 Environmental Impact Statement are underway and to date over 2,300 acres have been acquired for the Inaugural Airport.
