FAA Approves SSA Existing
Conditions Report

PEOTONE – On Dec. 15, 2011, the FAA informed the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Aeronautics, that it had approved the Existing Conditions Report for the South Suburban Airport’s Master Plan. The SSA Existing Conditions Report provides an inventory of the current regional setting and land use patterns that surround the Inaugural Airport Program (IAP). The report identifies the social, economic and environmental characteristics of the area, including population levels, employment trends, and the current transportation network. It also documents local resources that may be affected by the IAP.

“Capturing the local setting is an vital step in determining SSA’s future role in the community,” says Susan Shea, director of the Illinois Division of Aeronautics. Shea continued, “Painting an accurate picture of the local characteristics of the area is extremely important to the success of SSA.”

This approval marks the third FAA-approved report of the SSA Master Plan in 2011. IDOT-Aeronautics continues to work with the FAA to promptly complete the Airport Master Plan.
