FAA Approves SSA Facility
Requirements Report

PEOTONE – On Nov. 10, 2011, the FAA informed the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Aeronautics, that it had approved the Facility Requirements Report for the South Suburban Airport’s Master Plan.  “Approval of the Facility Requirements Report is a critical step in the SSA Master Plan process,” says Susan Shea, director of the Illinois Division of Aeronautics. Shea continued “FAA has now agreed to what should be built at SSA and this further demonstrates FAA’s continued support of the South Suburban Airport."

The Facility Requirements Report details the airfield, terminal and associated facilities that support the Inaugural Airport Program.  The FAA’s approval of this report validates the construction of an initial 9,500-foot by 150-foot commercial runway and taxiways, a four-gate passenger terminal, an airport traffic control tower, precision instrument approach procedures, passenger/cargo apron, and general aviation/corporate aviation facilities.  The report also identifies potential airport expansion for the next 20 years and beyond.

Gov. Pat Quinn has directed IDOT-Aeronautics to continue working with the FAA to promptly complete the Airport Master Plan.  With this important approval, IDOT-Aeronautics will proceed with the finalization of the Alternatives Development and Evaluation Report and the Airport Layout Plan.
