Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) accepting applications to buy property

Beginning April 4, 2001, the department started accepting applications from willing sellers whose property lies within the 4,200-acre area of the proposed South Suburban Airport near Peotone. The initial site, called the Inaugural Airport, is within the boundary of the larger 20,000-acre final South Suburban Airport.

Federal and state guidelines will apply to the acquisition of property, including relocation costs. All price offers will be based on fair market value. Also, all owners of property held in trust must be fully disclosed before the state will issue payment for such property.

IDOT also will consider making hardship and protective buys of property outside of the initial site. The map shows the boundary lines for the initial site as well as for the final site.

For more information, contact the South Suburban Airport Property Office, or see the FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) on this site.
