Step No. 2— You receive a letter from Hanson Professional Services Inc. (the firm the state hired to manage the land acquisition program) letting you know that your home or land is one of the parcels the state plans to purchase. This letter will help you understand what's coming up, including the land survey, environmental audit and appraisal for your property.

Definitions

Land survey

A map or plat made by a licensed surveyor showing the results of measuring the land with its elevations, improvements, boundaries and its relationship to surrounding tracts of land. A land survey is often required to ensure that a building is actually sited on the land according to its legal description.

Environmental audit

An independent assessment of the current status of a party's compliance with applicable environmental requirements or of a party's environmental compliance policies, practices and controls.

Appraisal

An expert judgment or estimate of the quality or value of real estate as of a given date.
