Design

The vision for the South Suburban Airport involves designing a supplemental, commercial service airport that will serve the greater Chicagoland area.  The airport’s design will comply with the approved airport layout plan — a part of the airport master plan — and the signed record of decision for the environmental impact statement.

The Federal Aviation Administration’s Advisory Circular Series 150 also provides guidance and standards for the engineering and design of airports nationwide, and these standards will apply to the South Suburban Airport. Additionally, the airport’s design will incorporate construction specifications prescribed by the Illinois Department of Transportation's Division of Aeronautics.
