Master Plan Process

The Illinois Department of Transportation's Division of Aeronautics is preparing an airport master plan for the South Suburban Airport, and it is using the guidelines contained in the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Advisory Circular 150/5070‐6B, " Airport Master Plans." The master plan will present the initial, intermediate and long‐term development expectations for the airport.

After it is completed, the Division of Aeronautics will use information from the master plan to prepare an airport master plan report and an airport layout plan. This information will provide the Division of Aeronautics, the Federal Aviation Administration, and surrounding communities and stakeholders with specific goals and guidelines needed to prepare for future airport developments such as the South Suburban Airport.  It also will help address local community concerns and future environmental compatibility.

What is included in an airport master plan?

An airport master plan may include the following elements shown in the list to the left. A key component of the master plan process is community involvement. As the South Suburban Airport master plan progresses, you will find interim study reports and exhibits posted on this Web site as soon as they become available for public review.  And please check this Web site often to learn about upcoming stakeholder briefings and public meetings.
